When I first developed the idea to start this website I felt really lost. I put off the idea for months and months because I was just so confused. I could not wrap my head around what needed to be done first, second, or last. I read a lot online, but I felt like the more I read, the more confused I became.
As I did more and more research I heard alot of talk about webhosting and the need to have a good webhosting site. At first, I did not fully understand what webhosting meant.
Finally I understood the concept to mean the “place” which “houses” your website so that your visitors can “view” your products. It’s a company that provides you with online space for your business or blog.
As I did more and more digging though, one common theme I saw, regardless of where I read the information, was the fact that in order to be successful at an online business, you first needed to have a good webhosting company. So this was one of the things that stuck with me.
So too, as you start your own online business, keep in mind that a great (or bad) webhosting company can make or break your success.
Things To Look For In A WebHost

Reliability, speed in terms of how quickly your website loads, and customer service are the key things to look for in a webhost. In my mind, these should be placed above price. I know that may seem like going against the grain. In this day and age, everyone is looking for cost effectiveness.
Nobody wants to pay extra for something, when they can find that same thing, somewhere else for much cheaper.
If you are just starting up your blog or online business, I know that the funds may be somewhere between low and non-existent. But understand this, the type of webhost you select will ultimately determine the success of your business.
It isn’t to say that you shouldn’t look for a webhost which is less costly on your pocket than another, but let’s look at the big picture here.
Let’s say you opted for a ridiculously cheap web host, and that the service is lousy, your site loads slowly, and there is never anyone available to help you when there are issues with your site. In the long run you are setting your blog or online business up for failure.
Visitors to your site will get frustrated by the slow load time of your site, and regardless of how amazing your content is, they will never get the opportunity to see it, as they would have exited your site and moved on to another site.
Additonally, not having a webhost with 24/7 customer service is going to decrease your productivity and output. As online business owners, and parents we will find ourselves sometimes being inconsistent in terms of when we can blog.
Kids can be unpredictable, and your blogging schedule will almost always revolve around them.
As I have mentioned before, I use SiteGround as my webhost for this site. I have never had an issue with their service at all, however I feel comforted knowing that if I did have an issue, I could potentially log in at 2:00am in the morning, and there would be someone right there to help me through the issue.
When I first started blogging I had a few moments of cluelessness. I am not super techy and when I hit a stumbling block, I was able to log into my SiteGround account, click on the chat function, and there was a live person to chat with. How awesome is that?
I highly suggest Siteground as a webhost for anyone thinking of starting up their own website. They are:
- Cost effective. They have plans which can start as low as $3.95 per month
- Well known for website speed. The industry’s standard for website loading time is 4.7 seconds, Siteground’s loading time with cache is 1.3 seconds.
- Known to have minimal outages – 99.99% uptime
- A webhost for over 1,000,000 domains (that’s a lot!)
- Able to provide you and your business with 24/7 customer service
If you are interested in starting up your blog or online business the way I did, below I have laid out the step by step process for getting set up with SiteGround.
First – Go To Their Website
The first step is to go to their website. You can use my discount code HERE, and get 60% off the regular webhosting price. There are three main plans with SiteGround and you can pick the right one for you depending on your budget and how you plan to expand your blog or website later on.
- The StartUp Plan – is great for someone who is thinking of only having one website.
- The GrowBig Plan – as the name suggests, allows you to grow bigger. If you are thinking of starting with one website, but know that you may have plans later on to have multiple websites, this plan is the best value for your money. The plan also features what’s called Supercacher, which greatly improves WordPress website speed
- The GoGeek Plan is perfect for people with e-commerce and larger sites
***Just for reference, I started this website with the GrowBig Plan
Once you have decided on your plan. Click the “Get Started” link under the plan you have chosen.
Read here about why I chose to select a different company from SiteGround for my site’s name. The choice is yours, but just so you know, you have the option of buying your site’s domain name with Siteground also.
Now, if you already have your name with another company, like for instance I have mine with NameCheap, you can still sign up with SiteGround for your webhosting.
Pick the option that applies:
1.Whether you already have your site name, or
2.If you would like to register your site name with SiteGround
One of the other great things about SiteGround is, let’s say you already started an online business with another webhosting company but you weren’t happy with them, SiteGround offers free website transfers as part of your service.
What this means is that they will assist you in moving your website from the other service over to their webhosting platform.
Last Step – Review and Complete Your Order
Earlier on I talked about the cost effectiveness of SiteGround. One of the things that also drew me to them, is the fact that their advertised discount applies to any of the amount of months you initially opt to sign up for. So for instance, if you picked 12 months, the discounted price applies for all of the 12 months.
This actually will increase your conversions compared to other webhosting sites which offer you plans where the lowest price will be attached to the highest number of months that you take a package for with them.
Once you have clicked on the number of months of webhosting you want to purchase, click the “Pay Now” button, enter your credit card information, and that’s all there is to it.
You now have a Webhosting company for your online business! Your business now has a “space” online.
What are your thoughts on setting up webhosting with SiteGround? Does the concept sound easy?
